I’m New Here…
Thanks for visiting! Though I have not been preaching long, there are already many sermons posted on this site. If you are a new visitor wondering where to start, there is a lot to sift through.
The sidebar should help you get around. You can use the “Categories” menu to find sermons from specific liturgical seasons or festivals, to look for specific styles (e.g. narrative sermons), or to find sermons which include audio and/or video, and the “Topics” cloud will help you identify sermons according to what they cover. If you are looking for a sermon from a specific date, try the calendar (or the menu under it for older sermons).
Below, I’ve begun a list of sermons that I hope capture my style, my voice, and some of the most well-received sermons by congregations. For others, check the “Most Popular” section in the sidebar.
I invite and encourage you to leave feedback (ratings, comments) on these posts. Feedback helps me evolve my style and understand what people hear when I speak. Thank you, and enjoy!
Dancing with the Divine, 07/03/2011, uses the metaphor of dancing to describe God’s relationship with us and how we too often fail to see the point of religion. Lots of people said that this really spoke to them. Includes an audio recording.
God’s Promise in the Valley of Dry Bones, 04/10/2011, addresses the issue of suffering and the existence of evil. Includes an audio recording.
The Strange and Dangerous Kingdom, 03/16/2011, an example didactic preaching and storytelling.
Worst Fantasy Football Team Ever, 01/30/2011, delivers a new take on the (overly?) familiar beatitudes (Matt 5.1-12)
A Word That Sticks to our Ribs, 01/02/2011, got a lot of positive feedback and talks about the incarnational and sacramental nature of the Church in the world.
No Corpse To Anoint, 04/04/2010, is an Easter sermon in which I lay out a concise and powerful view of the incarnation and resurrection and what it means for the Christian’s life.
The Cross is Obedience, Not Suffering, 03/08/2009, addresses the important topic of violence, abuse and religion.
